Baku: The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has issued a stern warning regarding the participation of Azerbaijani citizens in armed conflicts occurring in foreign countries, highlighting it as a severe criminal offense. According to AZERTAC, recent investigations by law enforcement agencies have uncovered instances of Azerbaijani citizens engaging in military actions between Russia and Ukraine, as well as other conflicts abroad.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, The office expressed regret over the involvement of citizens in these conflicts, noting that some have suffered fatalities, serious injuries, or have been taken hostage. Emphasizing the state's commitment to the safety and rights of its citizens, the statement outlined Azerbaijan's firm stance on legal accountability for those who violate the law.

Participation in such conflicts is deemed a grave crime under Azerbaijani law and international conventions. The country's Criminal Code classifies mercenarism and involvement in unauthorized armed formations as criminal acts, punishable by 8 to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.

The Prosecutor General's Office has initiated criminal proceedings against individuals involved in these activities, with some cases already resulting in long-term sentences. Ongoing investigations continue for other related cases.

The statement urged citizens to comply with Azerbaijani laws and stressed the importance of prioritizing national interests over material gain. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant against illegal activities and adhere to the country's legal framework.
