Baku: At the Leaders' Session of the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), Chief Minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, outlined the ongoing urban and rural development initiatives in the region.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the 'Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar' program, which has provided housing support through zero-interest financing to over 160,000 families. More than 100,000 families have already moved into their new homes under this initiative.
The Chief Minister also discussed the 'Model Villages' program, which is enhancing infrastructure in over 2,000 villages across Punjab. These villages are being upgraded with clean water facilities, sewage systems, roads, and solar energy infrastructure.
In addition, an urban development program valued at over $2 billion is underway in Punjab. This program focuses on modernizing urban infrastructure and restoring more than 100 historical and tourism sites.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif further mentioned the 'Clean Punjab' program, which employs more than 150,000 workers daily. The program aims to adopt a circular economy model that includes waste recycling and energy production.
