Baku: The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikhail Yevdokimov, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry told APA. During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side expressed serious concern and firm protest regarding recent provocative, insulting, and threatening statements made in the media and information space of Russia against the Azerbaijani state, people, and leadership.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted specific instances of concern, including statements made against Azerbaijan and its leadership during the 'Chistota Ponimaniya' program broadcast on 13 August 2026. Further emphasis was placed on absurd claims broadcast on 'Sputnik' radio on 7 August, regarding the inclusion of Azerbaijani leadership in 'Russia's list of terrorists and extremists', as well as provocative views aired on the 'Spas' TV channel on 16 August.
The Ministry underscored that discussions on potential interference in Azerbaijan's internal political processes and calls for physical violence against the Azerbaijani nation and leadership are unacceptable. Despite repeated calls from Azerbaijan to address these issues and discussions held at various political levels, the continuation of such rhetoric in harsher forms remains a significant concern.
The Ministry conveyed their expectation that urgent and effective measures be taken to end provocations, threats, and violent rhetoric against Azerbaijan in the Russian information and media space. This expectation was clearly communicated to the Russian side during the meeting, emphasizing the need for immediate action to prevent further escalation.
