Baku: Container transportation along the western branch of the North-South transport corridor, which covers Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran, has increased 1.6 times this year, Oleg Belozyorov, Director General and Chairman of the Management Board of ‘Russian Railways’ (RZD) JSC, told journalists within the framework of the meeting of the Council for Railway Transport of CIS countries held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, 6,558 containers have currently been transported along the mentioned route. Transportation along the eastern branch of the North-South corridor has also doubled, but for now, the figures remain lower.

Belozyorov highlighted the corridor’s potential, emphasizing the importance of integrating all technological elements, including infrastructure, management systems, and the modernization of information and documentation processes.

He also noted the signing of bilateral agreements enabling digital data transfer between Russia and Azerbaijan, which aims to reduce the documentation burden and increase processing speed.

Belozyorov further revealed ongoing efforts towards a trilateral agreement between Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran regarding the North-South International Transport Corridor.
