Sahiba Gafarova Advocates for Stronger Cooperation in the Muslim World

Baku:An Azerbaijani delegation, led by Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, is visiting Tanzania to participate in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Sahiba Gafarova attended a coordination meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during the visit. She highlighted that Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the OIC Parliamentary Union, assumed after the 20th Conference in Baku, reflects the country's dedication to enhancing solidarity within the Muslim world.

Gafarova, as President of the 20th Conference, emphasized the importance of bringing together parliaments with varied national experiences to promote dialogue, solidarity, and cooperation. She stated that Azerbaijan's leadership is driven by principles such as peace, justice, and sustainable development.

She highlighted the potential for countries with diverse regional perspectives to collaborate through mutual respect and shared interests, advocating for a stronger regional voice in international parliamentary discussions.

Recalling a meeting with OIC member states' permanent representatives to the UN, Gafarova discussed the importance of aligning their countries' priorities with international decision-making. She stressed the need for practical cooperation to address challenges like conflict, displacement, poverty, climate change, terrorism, extremism, and Islamophobia, emphasizing the role of parliaments in shaping international priorities and decisions.
