Shamakhi Meeting Secures Spot on Traditional COP Calendar

Baku: The Shamakhi Meeting will become a permanent fixture on the traditional COP calendar in July, Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev announced in an interview with APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the deputy minister highlighted that COP is held in a different country each year, with the preparatory process commencing early in the year. Each February marks the beginning of a series of events in various countries, integral to the COP preparations. These events follow a well-established COP calendar, starting with the Japan-Brazil Climate Dialogue in Tokyo, followed by the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin in March-April, and the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial in May. June sees the sessions of the subsidiary bodies in Bonn.

Shamakhi has now been successfully included in the COP calendar for July. The Shamakhi Meeting, occurring for the third time this year, was requested by Ethiopia to be organized again next year, as Ethiopia is set to host the next COP. This request ensures that Shamakhi will maintain its place in the traditional COP calendar in July.
