Somali Ambassador Presents Credentials to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister for Bilateral Cooperation

Baku: Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Abdinur Dahir Fidow, the newly appointed Ambassador of Somalia to Azerbaijan, on February 25, 2026. The ambassador presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Bayramov, marking a significant step in diplomatic relations. Minister Bayramov congratulated Ambassador Fidow on his new role and encouraged continued efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting involved discussions about the current and future prospects of cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral levels. The discussions highlighted the increased frequency of interactions between Somalia and Azerbaijan, with exchanges of visits by high-level officials from both countries over the past year. These included the Somali president's visit to Azerbaijan and subsequent visits by Azerbaijani officials to Somalia, along with the first political consultations between their foreign ministries.

The meeting underscored the potential for enhanced cooperation in various sectors, including political, economic, humanitarian, agricultural, and energy fields. Both parties stressed the importance of working together within international and regional platforms such as the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Somalia's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2025-2026 was particularly noted as a significant achievement.

Azerbaijan reaffirmed its unwavering support for Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity within its recognized borders. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other mutual interests, paving the way for a promising partnership between the two nations.
