Stockholm: The documentary film 'The Homeland in Memory,' directed by Swedish photographer Mikael Silkeberg, was showcased at the Filmstaden Sergel cinema in Stockholm to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event was organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Sweden and brought together members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, along with Gulchin Gasimova, a representative from Azerbaijan's 'Disabled Women's Society' Public Union. Attendees also included members of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities, as well as Swedish citizens interested in Azerbaijani history and culture.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Sweden Zaur Ahmadov emphasized the enduring respect and reverence for Heydar Aliyev's memory, both in Azerbaijan and internationally. He quoted President Ilham Aliyev, stating that Heydar Aliyev would be at peace knowing that today's Azerbaijan is a testament to his legacy. The ambassador highlighted the liberation of Azerbaijani lands under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the raising of the national flag in Khankendi as sources of national pride.
Mikael Silkeberg, the director of the documentary, explained that 'The Homeland in Memory' is a tribute to the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Azerbaijanis forcibly displaced from Western Azerbaijan. The film explores how individuals preserve the memory of their homeland through art and traditions while living in foreign lands.
