Suspect Charged in Connection with Murder of Azerbaijani Citizen in Tbilisi

Tbilisi: Emin Aliyev, who is suspected of murdering Azerbaijani citizen Fatima Karimova in Tbilisi, has been charged with murder committed on the grounds of intolerance towards gender equality, APA's local bureau reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Georgian Prosecutor's Office has announced that it will apply to the court within the established timeframe to request pre-trial detention for the accused and will declare him wanted. The crime, which took place on June 25, is punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment or life imprisonment.

Fatima Karimova, a resident of Azerbaijan's Aghjabadi district, was murdered in Georgia by her relative, Emin Aliyev. She had traveled to Georgia with her acquaintance Kenan Aliyev. Reports indicate that Kenan Aliyev tore up Karimova's passport, preventing her from returning to Azerbaijan. Unable to return, she sought help from her relative, Emin Aliyev, who then traveled to Georgia, strangled her, and fled to Trkiye.

Georgian law enforcement authorities subsequently declared Emin Aliyev wanted and he was detained in Trkiye. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan is closely monitoring the preliminary investigation into the intentional murder of Fatima Karimova in Tbilisi.
