DUSHANBE: Tajikistan has adopted a new roadmap aimed at enhancing the resilience of housing construction to natural disasters, as part of the National Disaster Risk Management Project. This initiative, supported by the Asian Development Bank, seeks to improve disaster risk understanding and integrate risk management into national development planning.

According to Trend News Agency, the decision to adopt the roadmap was made following a consultative seminar organized by the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CESCD). The seminar focused on improving awareness of disaster risks and was attended by representatives from various government bodies, including the Committee on Construction and Architecture, the State Committee on Land Management and Geodesy, the Academy of Sciences, and international organizations.

The roadmap incorporates technical assistance to enhance awareness of disaster resilience, with particular emphasis on earthquake-resistant infrastructure in the Rasht Valley region. A
study was conducted to evaluate standards for disaster-resilient infrastructure, which is a key focus area under the new plan.

The CESCD, which is implementing the National Disaster Risk Management Project, aims to support the Tajik government in reducing economic losses from natural hazards. The project is aligned with the country’s National Development Strategy (2016-2030) and the Midterm Development Program (2016-2020), underscoring the importance of integrating disaster risk management into overall development strategies.
