TotalEnergies to Launch Execution Phase of Absheron Phase 2 This Year

Baku: TotalEnergies plans to commence the execution phase of the Absheron Phase 2 gas-condensate field development this year, as announced by Emmanuel de Guillebon, Country Chair of TotalEnergies in Azerbaijan, during the 'Upstream Sector - New Horizons' session at the Baku Energy Forum.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, engineering work for the second phase of the Absheron field has been completed. The initial production phase, commissioned two years ago, delivered the anticipated results. Emmanuel de Guillebon expressed confidence in proceeding with the second phase, stating that stable production has been achieved, providing the necessary data and confidence for advancement.

TotalEnergies has collaborated with partners SOCAR and XRG over the past three years on a feasibility study for the second phase. The project is currently in the tender stage for major contracts, with plans to initiate the execution phase by the year's end. The second phase involves drilling three new wells, each with a production capacity of 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, predominantly consisting of gas.

The project will utilize a 140-kilometer subsea pipeline to connect the wells to the shore, allowing production to be transported directly without needing a production platform. Onshore facilities for gas processing and compression will be constructed. Part of the gas will be exported to Trkiye, while stabilized condensate will be transported to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export oil pipeline.
