Baku: Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov has emphasized the significant potential that remains in the field of energy efficiency, despite the complexities and advancements in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors. Speaking at the 'Energy Efficiency and the ESCO Investment Platform: Connecting Global ESCO Experience with Azerbaijan's Major Energy Consumers' event during the 31st Baku Energy Week, Soltanov noted that while many accessible opportunities have been utilized, energy efficiency still holds substantial promise.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Soltanov highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a robust legal framework for energy efficiency, nearing completion, and the intensive work on the building energy certification system. He expressed confidence that this system would be operational by the year's end. He also mentioned the identification of around 500 companies, institutions, and buildings with significant energy consumption that are required to appoint energy managers. To date, nearly 100 entities have implemented this process in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy.
Soltanov elaborated on the complexity of the process, noting that energy managers must pass examinations and obtain professional certification. Additionally, these entities are mandated to conduct energy audits every three years. He pointed out that these audits are a legal requirement, underscoring the importance of energy management. Furthermore, he announced the establishment of the Energy Efficiency Fund, which has secured funding aimed at supporting energy efficiency projects in Azerbaijan.
