Baku: The Baku City State Traffic Police Department has issued an appeal to road users in connection with the 2026 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the appeal aims to mitigate traffic congestion during the event. Citizens traveling to Baku from nearby villages and settlements, as well as from other cities and districts, are requested to prioritize public transport from September 24 to 26. Residents of the capital are also encouraged to minimize the use of private cars, travel to the city center only by public transport, and avoid driving vehicles that have been in operation for a long time or are in poor technical condition.
A new transit corridor will be established from the intersection of Uzeyir Hajibeyli and Pushkin streets towards Bulbul Avenue. Traffic restrictions will be imposed in certain areas in connection with the race. The initial restriction will take effect on September 19 at 21:00, affecting the section of Pushkin Street at its intersections with Uzeyir Hajibeyli Street and Neftchilar Avenue. This restriction will remain until the event concludes.
The Traffic Management Plan indicates that streets along the Baku City Circuit and areas covered by the track will be closed to traffic from September 20 at 01:00 until September 28 at 08:00. Entry to and exit from restricted zones will only be possible with a Residential Access Permit. On September 21 and 22, designated entry and exit points will be open from 07:00 to 09:00 in the morning and 18:00 to 20:00 in the evening, allowing traffic without stopping or parking. On September 23, these roads will be accessible from 07:00 to 09:00 in the morning and 20:00 to 22:00 in the evening.
During the specified period, vehicle movement, excluding public transport and heavy goods vehicles, will be facilitated through designated transit corridors. Parking and passenger pick-up and drop-off will not be permitted in these corridors, except in emergencies. The speed limit in transit corridors will be 50 km/h.
