Baku: The trial of Abdulla Aliyev, an alleged ISIS member accused of preparing a terrorist attack in Azerbaijan, continued at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the court session was presided over by Judge Aygun Gurbanova, who announced the indictment against Aliyev.

The charges, if proven, could result in a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 20 years or even a life sentence. Aliyev, however, denied the charges, claiming he was in a state of unconsciousness at the time of the alleged crime. His lawyer requested time to review the case, as Aliyev had refused his previous legal representation due to health issues.

Aliyev faces charges under multiple articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including terrorism and participation in a criminal organization. He was apprehended by the State Security Service while allegedly planning an attack on the Baku Mountain Jews Synagogue with a Molotov cocktail.

According to the indictment, the 18-year-old from Sumgayit, linked to “ISIS Khorasan,” attempted to carry out the attack on December 28. The State Security Service discovered weapons and materials intended for use in the attack in his possession. The next court hearing is scheduled for July 14.
