Trump Facilitates Landmark Agreement Between Azerbaijan and Armenia

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has successfully positioned himself as a credible mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan, facilitating the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the White House. This significant event marks a commitment by both nations to continue dialogue aimed at resolving long-standing conflicts.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, brokered by Trump, underscores the U.S.’s role as a reliable third-party guarantor. This development is expected to bolster the credibility of peace efforts and potentially attract American investments in regional infrastructure, enhancing the Caucasus as a strategic hub connecting Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

Paolo von Schirach, President of the Global Policy Institute and Professor at Bay Atlantic University, emphasized the significance of the meeting. He noted that the resolution of territorial disputes, although substantial, is just the beginning of a broader peace process. Schirach highlighted Trump’s consistent stance against military interventions and his preference for diplomatic solutions, as evidenced by his initiatives in other global conflicts.

The agreement, co-signed by Trump, is seen as a reassuring step for both Armenia and Azerbaijan, providing a framework for continued engagement and potential regional stability.
