Turkish Ambassador Praises Azerbaijan’s Support During 2016 Coup Attempt

Baku: Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgun, highlighted Azerbaijan's unwavering support during the July 15, 2016, coup attempt in Turkey. Speaking at an event commemorating July 15 - Democracy and National Unity Day, Akgun recalled the night when a treacherous network attempted to destabilize Turkey's constitutional order.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ambassador Akgun described the organization as a dangerous terrorist entity that operates through covert plans and espionage, posing threats beyond Turkey. He emphasized that the events of July 15 were a testament to the resilience of democracy, the national will, and the nation's commitment to independence under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's leadership.

Akgun expressed profound gratitude towards Azerbaijan for condemning the coup attempt from the very first moment. He acknowledged the support of the Azerbaijani people and state, who reinforced the slogan 'One nation, two states' through their solidarity and cooperation. The ambassador lauded the Azerbaijani officials for their firm stance and for fostering high-level institutional collaboration between the two nations.
