TREND, Baku — UK Minister for Climate Kerry McCarthy is currently visiting Azerbaijan to lead the UK delegation at the upcoming PreCOP29 events, announced UK Ambassador Fergus Auld. This preparatory gathering is part of the broader engagement leading up to COP29 scheduled for November.
According to Trend News Agency, Ambassador Auld shared the details in a video address, highlighting the significance of the PreCOP meetings, which serve as an informal platform for a select group of countries to discuss pivotal political issues related to climate change negotiations. These meetings aim to provide political guidance for future negotiations and are crucial in setting the stage for the main Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings.
Azerbaijan is set to host this important PreCOP event on October 10-11, which precedes COP29 to be held in November. The location for COP29 was decided during the plenary meeting of COP28 in Dubai on December 11, last year. Baku, poised to become a focal point in the global dialogue on climate change, expects to welcome between 70,000 and 80,000 international visitors in the lead-up to the conference.
The PreCOP meeting is designed to foster open discussions and exchange opinions among participating nations, aiming to streamline the complexities of international climate policy ahead of the main event.
