UN-Habitat Representative Emphasizes Importance of Full Youth Participation in Decision-Making

Abu dhabi: Within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), the main idea during the youth assemblies was not only to include young people in discussions, but also to build the discussions directly around youth-centered approaches, Joshua Fortedur, representative of the Youth Advisory Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said at the 'Children and Youth Group' event held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Fortedur highlighted that young people should be involved in all stages of discussions and the decision-making process. He pointed out that often, while consultations are initially held with young people and their opinions are gathered, the final decisions are made without their involvement. This exclusion can lead to outcomes that diverge from the perspectives and solutions proposed by the youth. Fortedur stressed that young people, who directly experience the issues being addressed, have a deep understanding of the challenges and are already developing solutions.

Fortedur emphasized the necessity of youth participation from the beginning to the end of the process for a successful and equitable future. He noted that this involvement is crucial not only for individual well-being, success, and development but also for the future of communities as a whole. The full and continuous engagement of young people is essential to ensuring that decisions reflect their experiences and insights, leading to more effective and sustainable outcomes.
