Baku: Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed her gratitude to the Government and people of Azerbaijan for hosting the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku. She commended Azerbaijan for declaring 2026 as the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture", which elevates urbanism globally by developing approaches that address new challenges while respecting longstanding traditions.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Mohammed noted significant reconstruction and development efforts across Azerbaijan, focusing on reintegrating communities, restoring infrastructure, and fostering a peaceful environment. These efforts are transforming territories into centers of cultural, social, and economic development.
The UN official further highlighted Baku as an example of renewal and sustainability, pointing out its status as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
