Baku: The Global South NGO Platform serves as an important mechanism for solidarity, dialogue, and partnership, Igor Garafulic, UN Resident Coordinator ad interim in Azerbaijan said, referring to the message of the UN Secretary-General addressed to the participants of the first General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the message emphasized the importance of fulfilling global commitments to promote inclusive development, strengthen resilience, and ensure effective multilateralism and cooperation. The focus is particularly on supporting Global South countries and ensuring that no one is left behind.

The dedication of the General Assembly to issues such as inclusive urban development, climate resilience, and sustainable governance was noted as crucial for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN also expressed high appreciation for Azerbaijan's efforts in promoting multilateralism, international cooperation, and inclusive participation on a global scale. The UN representation in Azerbaijan is committed to supporting cooperation to strengthen the role of civil society in implementing sustainable development goals and shaping a sustainable urban future.

The Secretary-General's message was delivered by Igor Garafulic, UN Resident Coordinator ad interim in Azerbaijan.
