Baku: We are currently living in a period of climate crisis, Head of Disaster Risk Reduction, Recovery and Resilience Building at the Crisis Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ronald Jackson said during a panel discussion held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports. He emphasized that one of the main areas of activity for the UNDP is the application of a systematic approach to urban development.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Jackson highlighted the 'Resilient Urban Futures' program, which aims to assess cities as systems by identifying key variables that ensure their functioning. The program seeks to direct investments toward areas that sustainably meet the needs of urban residents. As part of this initiative, the 'Hands On' program is focused on managing the risks associated with heatwaves and high temperatures.
Jackson stated that in the urban context, water systems hold particular importance. The goal is to build water supply systems that can meet the needs of city residents while minimizing the negative impact of water on the urban environment. This approach is crucial as cities confront the challenges posed by the ongoing climate crisis.
