Samarkand: The 100th anniversary of Azerbaijani folk poet and musician Ashig Alasgar’s death has been included in UNESCO’s 2026-2027 jubilee program. This inclusion marks a significant recognition for the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the decision was confirmed at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO played a pivotal role in securing this honor for Ashig Alasgar, who is celebrated for his contributions to Azerbaijani folk music and poetry.
