Baku: "Azerbaijan has proven to be a reliable and trustworthy energy partner for the European Union," President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated during a press briefing with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, APA's correspondent reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, von der Leyen highlighted the significance of energy cooperation as a core element of the partnership between the EU and Azerbaijan. She emphasized Azerbaijan's critical role when Russia cut off gas supplies to Europe, noting that Azerbaijan provided crucial support through the Southern Gas Corridor, significantly bolstering Europe's energy security.

Von der Leyen also discussed Azerbaijan's forward-looking investments in renewable energy, particularly offshore wind energy in the Caspian Sea. She noted Azerbaijan's aspirations to become a regional hub for clean electricity, aligning with Europe's green transition strategy. The European Commission President expressed optimism about expanding collaboration in renewable energy and establishing a green energy corridor between Azerbaijan and the EU. This initiative aims to increase renewable energy production, freeing up more gas for export, thereby enhancing regional energy security.
