TASHKENT: Uzbek citizens are demonstrating strong electoral engagement in the ongoing parliamentary elections, with significant voter turnout reported across the country. An observer from the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Abdupattoev Salokhiddin, confirmed the active participation at polling station No. 19 in Tashkent.

According to Trend News Agency, the elections have attracted a robust presence of both domestic and international monitors, ensuring the transparency of the voting process. Salokhiddin noted that a newly introduced electronic voting system is being utilized effectively by voters, reflecting the country’s move towards digitalization in electoral processes.

Polling stations in Uzbekistan opened on October 27 for the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, as well as to local councils. The stations are operational from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5), with preliminary results anticipated on October 28. Five political parties are vying for seats, including the Movement of En
trepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” Ecological Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party “Adolat.”

This election is notable for its mixed electoral system, a result of recent constitutional and legislative changes. Seventy-five members of the Legislative Chamber will be elected from single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian system, while the remaining members will be selected through proportional representation using party lists.

The digital voting system, “E-Saylov,” facilitates a fully electronic election process, underscoring Uzbekistan’s commitment to modernizing its electoral infrastructure. The election is under the scrutiny of over 850 foreign and international observers, including representatives from the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States.
