TASHKENT: The voting process in Uzbekistan’s parliamentary election is unfolding in a calm atmosphere, as reported by the chair of polling station No. 23 at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers. Despite being a Sunday, voters are actively participating in this significant electoral event.

According to Trend News Agency, Bakhriddin Mukimov, the chair of the polling station, stated that there are 2,717 registered voters at his location. He noted that the voters are arriving in a festive mood, and all necessary conditions have been established to ensure that citizens can vote peacefully and comfortably.

Polls have opened in Uzbekistan for elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) and local kengashes (councils) of people’s deputies. The polling stations operate from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5), with preliminary results expected to be announced on October 28.

The election is under close scrutiny, with more than 800 foreign and international obse
rvers present, including 245 observers from 43 countries and 560 from 13 international organizations such as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). Additionally, 55,000 observers from political parties and over 10,000 from local self-governance bodies are involved in overseeing the electoral process.

For the first time in Uzbekistan’s history, the elections to the Legislative Chamber of Parliament are being conducted under a mixed electoral system, integrating both majoritarian and proportional systems. Contesting in the election are the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party of National Revival, Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, and the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Adolat.”
