Uzbekistan’s President Participates in Parliamentary Election Amid Digitalization and International Observation

TASHKENT: Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev exercised his civic duty by casting his vote in the country’s parliamentary elections at polling station No. 59 in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district of Tashkent. During his visit, he engaged with voters, expressing gratitude for their active participation and commitment to the nation’s future.

According to Trend News Agency, polling stations across Uzbekistan opened for elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) and local councils on October 27. The election process, which runs from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5), is expected to yield preliminary results by October 28. Five political parties are competing in these elections, showcasing a diverse political landscape.

The elections are being conducted under a mixed electoral system, as outlined by the updated Constitution and national electoral legislation. Of the 150 members of the Legislative Chamber, 75 will be elected through single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian electoral sys
tem, while the remaining 75 will be chosen via proportional representation with party lists.

A significant feature of this year’s elections is the complete digitalization of the voting process through the “E-Saylov” information system. This modernization aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.

Additionally, the elections are under the scrutiny of over 850 foreign and international observers. These include delegations from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), ensuring that the elections meet international standards.
