Baku: 'We are strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan on the Green Energy Corridor,' Uzbekistan's Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov declared during the 31st Baku Energy Forum, as reported by APA-Economics. The minister highlighted the potential for Central Asia to become a leading region for clean energy development and investment, attributed to its abundant renewable energy resources, extensive hydropower capabilities, and strategic geographical position.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mirzamakhmudov outlined Uzbekistan's ambitious goal to develop 20 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with the intent to elevate the contribution of renewable sources to 54% of the nation's electricity production. He underscored that the transition to sustainable energy systems requires collaborative regional efforts rather than isolated initiatives from individual countries. Such cooperation is deemed essential for energy security, investment attraction, and the establishment of enduring energy frameworks.
The minister also pointed out the significance of the APREC initiative, introduced in Baku during COP29, as a critical platform for fostering regional cooperation, drawing in investment, and expediting renewable energy projects. He reiterated the commitment to bolstering partnerships with Azerbaijan across renewable energy sectors, regional connectivity, and the Green Energy Corridor's implementation. This strategic project is expected to establish a new pathway for exporting clean electricity from Central Asia to Europe.
Furthermore, Mirzamakhmudov emphasized the necessity for substantial investments in transmission infrastructure, energy storage solutions, digital technology integration, and cross-border energy links to advance the next phase of the energy transition.
