Tashkent:President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently welcomed FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss the future of football in the region.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting underscored Uzbekistan's accomplishments in football, emphasizing the country's effective reforms to bolster sports support.

A key focus of their discussions was the upcoming hosting of the FIFA U-20 World Cup by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, marking a significant event for both countries.

The talks also highlighted successful collaboration with FIFA on initiatives aimed at promoting football, especially among the youth. Plans to enhance their partnership were discussed, with goals to improve football organization and governance, nurture young talent, and train professionals in various sports-related roles to meet international standards.

Attention was also given to the prospect of hosting more major FIFA events in Uzbekistan and the swift establishment of a FIFA regional office in Tashkent.
