Uzbekistan’s Parliamentary Election Proceeds Smoothly, Says Observer

TASHKENT: Uzbekistan’s parliamentary election is reported to be proceeding without issue, according to Kobil Ayubov, an observer from Uzbekistan’s Social Democratic Party “Adolat.” The election, which is crucial for selecting deputies for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes, has seen citizens actively participating since polling stations opened.

According to Trend News Agency, Ayubov remarked that the voting process, which commenced early in the morning, has been transparent and incident-free. He noted the positive and united demeanor of voters as they arrived to cast their ballots. The elections, held on October 27, have polls operating from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (GMT+5), with preliminary results anticipated on October 28.

Five political parties are vying for positions in this election: the Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party ‘Milliy Tiklanish,’ Ecological Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party “Adolat.” The electoral system in place employs a mixed
approach, comprising 75 directly elected deputies and another 75 chosen through party votes under proportional representation.

This election cycle is notable for its complete digitization using the “E-Saylov” system, designed to enhance both efficiency and transparency. The election process is under the scrutiny of over 850 international observers from various organizations, including the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States.
