Vice President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva Strengthens Ties with ICESCO in Rabat

Rabat: Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva visited the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in Rabat, Morocco, where she met with ICESCO Director-General Salim bin Mohammed al-Malik to discuss ongoing cooperation and future joint projects. According to Trend News Agency, the discussions between Aliyeva and al-Malik on October 14 focused on the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and its collaboration with ICESCO. They explored the foundation's participation in the upcoming COP29 event in Azerbaijan, where ICESCO will have a pavilion. The meeting also covered the environmental initiatives led by the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) Public Union, which is under Aliyeva's leadership. Both parties reviewed potential projects in environmental protection and further cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and ICESCO. A significant development from the visit was the signing of a cooperation agre ement aimed at supporting educational and social initiatives for displaced girls and orphanages in Burkina Faso. The agreement, signed by Anar Alakbarov, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and ICESCO's al-Malik, focuses on providing resources, mentorship, and a supportive environment for female students. The project, which extends until October 2025, will include the creation of computer classrooms and libraries and will conduct workshops to aid personal development and resilience among the girls. Additionally, Aliyeva's delegation visited the Museum of the Biography of the Prophet and Islamic Civilization at the ICESCO headquarters. Aliyeva contributed a note to the museum's memorial book, marking her visit. The relationship between Azerbaijan and ICESCO has been robust since Azerbaijan joined the organization in 1991, with ties deepening significantly after 2006 when Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Vice President of Azerbaijan and leader of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was named an ICESCO Go odwill Ambassador. Further, a memorandum of cooperation signed earlier this year in Shusha, the cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2024, highlights the shared commitments of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and ICESCO to exchange experiences in culture, science, education, and technology, and implement joint projects.
