Viktor Yushchenko Praises Meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, Highlights Strategic Partnership

Baku: Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has expressed his appreciation for a recent meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Yushchenko shared details of the discussion on his social media account, describing it as sincere and substantive. Ukraine's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husyev, was also present during the meeting.

Yushchenko recounted the history of his relationship with Azerbaijan, which began in 1989 when he first met Heydar Aliyev in Nakhchivan, fostering friendly ties. He stated that his friendship with President Ilham Aliyev has spanned over two decades, characterized by joint efforts to enhance Ukraine-Azerbaijan relations.

Further reflecting on the collaboration between the two nations, Yushchenko highlighted the signing of the Declaration on Friendship and Strategic Partnership on May 22, 2008, during Ilham Aliyev's official visit to Kyiv. This document marked a significant milestone, formalizing the strategic nature of the bilateral relations and providing a foundation for ongoing development.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the present and future of Ukraine and Azerbaijan, exploring avenues for bilateral cooperation and specific projects that both teams are committed to advancing. Yushchenko expressed gratitude towards President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people for their unwavering support for Ukraine, noting their humanitarian aid, care for Ukrainian children, and respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Yushchenko conveyed his confidence that the strategic partnership, mutual trust, and respect between the two countries will continue to be manifested through significant joint initiatives.
