Witness: He Said He Would Bomb Other Places Too – Trial of Synagogue Terror Suspect Continues

Baku: The next court hearing has been held in the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) against Abdulla Aliyev, who is accused of preparing a terrorist act in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press news Agency, at the hearing held at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes, presided over by Judge Aygun Gurbanova, witness M.A. testified. M.A. revealed a connection with Abdulla Aliyev through Instagram and group links, detailing how their interactions led to the thwarted attack.

‘I met Abdulla in November 2024 through Instagram, and we began communicating regularly. He spoke to me about ISIS and said that he even had an acquaintance there. A week later, he sent me a group link. I joined, read the content, and then he sent me another secret group. He asked me to become a member. Later, he told me that he was going to attack a synagogue and asked me for an axe, a knife, a Molotov cocktail, and gloves. He said that after that, when the time came, he would bomb other places as well. He told me to continue his mission after his death. He sent me a location. I went there, and he got into the car. We drove toward the synagogue. On the way, SSS officers stopped us. During the inspection, materials belonging to Abdulla and incendiary substances were found in the car and on him.’

The trial will continue on September 22. Abdulla Aliyev faces charges under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including terrorism, religious extremism, and organized crime.

According to the charges, Abdulla Aliyev is accused under the following articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan: Articles 28, 214.2.1 (terrorism committed by a group of persons in advance collusion, by an organized group or criminal association), 28, 214.2.3 (terrorism committed using firearms or items used as weapons), 28, 214.2.6 (terrorism motivated by religious hatred, religious radicalism, or religious fanaticism), 218.2 (participation in a criminal association or organized group, or in the unity of their leaders and other representatives).

It is reported that he was detained by SSS officers while preparing to attack a Jewish synagogue in Baku with a Molotov cocktail.

According to the indictment, 18-year-old Abdulla Aliyev, a resident of Sumgayit and affiliated with the terrorist organization ‘ISIS-Khorasan,’ was preparing to carry out a terrorist attack against the ‘Mountain Jews Synagogue of Baku.’ On December 28 of last year, he approached the synagogue by car and was preparing to launch the attack using a Molotov cocktail and other objects intended for use as weapons. During the operation, various items intended to be used as weapons were found on him and in the vehicle.
