World Bank and Tajikistan Celebrate 31 Years of Development Projects Worth $2.9 Billion


DUSHANBE — Over the past three decades, the World Bank has been instrumental in advancing Tajikistan’s development, backing 116 priority projects across diverse sectors totaling $2.9 billion.



According to Trend News Agency, this extensive collaboration was highlighted during a meeting in New York between Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of the World Bank for Operations. The projects, encompassing social services, transportation, energy, and agriculture, reflect a broad commitment to enhancing the socio-economic landscape of Tajikistan.



President Rahmon recognized the World Bank as a pivotal development ally and explored strategies to mobilize additional resources to meet the nation’s economic and social goals. The discussions particularly focused on hydropower and industrial development, enhancing access to green energy, and fostering a green economy.



The President expressed his appreciation for the World Bank’s leadership and its role in financing significant initiatives, notably the completion of the Rogun hydropower plant, which is critical to the country’s energy strategy. He also highlighted Tajikistan’s abundant natural resources, particularly in renewable energy and agriculture, and called for increased international financial and technical support to fully harness these assets.



The meeting coincided with President Rahmon’s visit to New York for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, emphasizing the global stage on which these discussions are set.
