WUF13: “Colonial Injustice and Housing Shortage” Theme Discussed

Baku: As part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), an event dedicated to the theme "Colonial Injustice and Housing Shortage" was organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) on May 19.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event opened with introductory remarks by Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group. Participants engaged in discussions about the socio-economic impacts of colonial and neocolonial administration, structural inequalities emerging in urbanization processes, existing challenges in housing provision, and the effects of these problems on indigenous populations.

The speakers addressed the concept of justice as a fundamental pillar of human society and identified social inequalities resulting from colonialism as a serious global challenge. It was emphasized that the housing issue is not merely an economic problem, but also a consequence of historical injustices and colonial policies. The discussions concluded with the assertion that no housing policy can be just if a people does not possess control over its own land, institutions, and collective future.
