Baku: 193 Azerbaijani citizens have been successfully evacuated from Saudi Arabia and 257 from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amid heightened military tensions in the Middle East region. Aykhan Hajizada, Head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed these developments while addressing questions from the local press regarding the safety and evacuation of Azerbaijani nationals.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, with the exception of one individual, no Azerbaijani citizens have been injured in the ongoing conflict. The evacuation efforts have been robust, with 193 Azerbaijani citizens, along with 9 Azerbaijanis holding Georgian citizenship and 5 Azerbaijanis with Russian citizenship, being flown back from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, via a special flight operated by Azerbaijan Airlines.
Furthermore, efforts to bring citizens residing in the UAE back to Azerbaijan have been facilitated through regular flights operated by UAE-based airlines. Recently, 257 Azerbaijani citizens were repatriated, with additional flights planned from Dubai in the coming days.
Special arrangements are also underway to evacuate 200 Azerbaijani citizens currently in Qatar, considering the closure of Qatari airspace. Evacuation plans are also in place for citizens in Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, in line with a travel advisory issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Azerbaijani citizens are utilizing land borders shared with Turkey and Iran for safe passage. Up to this point, 260 citizens have successfully crossed the Azerbaijani border.
Azerbaijani nationals in the affected regions are advised to remain vigilant, adhere to local authorities' instructions, avoid large gatherings, and ensure personal safety.
