TASHKENT: Voting is actively ongoing at a polling station located in the Yunus Rajabi Music School in Tashkent for Uzbekistan’s parliamentary election. Uzbek citizens are arriving to cast their votes for deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes.

According to Trend News Agency, polling stations across Uzbekistan opened on October 27 for elections to the country’s Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils of people’s deputies. The polls are scheduled to remain open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5), with preliminary results anticipated on October 28.

Five political parties are participating in the elections: the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” Ecological Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party “Adolat.” The elections this year are conducted under a mixed electoral system, as outlined in the updated Constitution and national electoral legislation. This syst
em allows for 75 members of the Legislative Chamber to be elected in single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian electoral system, while the other 75 members will be chosen through proportional representation with party lists.

An additional significant feature of this year’s elections is the complete digitalization of the process through the “E-Saylov” information system. Over 850 foreign and international observers, including missions from the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States, are monitoring the election process.
