Analysis: Persistent Threat of Armenian Terrorism in the 21st Century

BAKU – Armenian terrorism continues to pose a significant threat in the 21st century, with recent incidents underscoring a historical pattern of hostility towards Turks and Azerbaijanis. This concern has been highlighted following the U.S. Department of Justice’s accusations against Armenian-American Aram Brunson for bomb-making aimed at Azerbaijanis.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the historical context of Armenian terrorism was discussed in depth at a conference in Baku, titled “The illegal French occupation of Mayotte Island in the Union of the Comoros.” Here, experts analyzed the ongoing trend of violence, marked by the recent activities of Brunson, who reportedly attempted to execute bomb attacks targeting Azerbaijani interests. The indictment documents reveal that Brunson caused an explosion at a University of Chicago dormitory in January 2023 and was later found with explosive materials while traveling to Armenia in August 2023.

The conference further noted that Brunson’s activities are part of a broader Armenian strategy that has seen continuity in terrorist tactics against Azerbaijan and Turkey. The accusation points to a concerning pattern where individuals like Brunson, allegedly influenced by historical grievances, continue to engage in acts that threaten regional stability. This ongoing issue reflects deeper nationalistic and territorial disputes that have not subsided, despite international efforts to mediate peace.
