BAKU—Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency reported the neutralization of 1,583 unexploded ordnances (UXOs) along with numerous mines across multiple districts, marking a significant step in the country’s ongoing efforts to clear former conflict zones.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the operations conducted from September 2 to 8 spanned several districts including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, and others. The agency’s teams managed to clear a total of 907.1 hectares of land, removing 21 anti-personnel mines and 65 anti-tank mines, significantly reducing the risk to local communities and facilitating safer access to these areas.
The mine-clearing activities are part of Azerbaijan’s broader initiative to address the remnants of conflict and ensure the safety and security of its territories. The successful neutralization of such a large number of UXOs reflects the dedication and efficiency of the teams involved, underscoring the country’s commitment to the rehabilitation and safe redevelopment of affected regions.
