Yerevan: Armenia is contemplating the possibility of importing gas from Azerbaijan in response to potential disruptions or price hikes in Russian gas supplies. This consideration comes as part of Armenia's strategy to diversify its energy sources, as stated by the Chairman of Armenia's Public Services Regulatory Commission, Mesrop Mesropyan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mesropyan highlighted that Armenia is prepared to explore alternative markets if challenges with Russian gas arise. He emphasized that neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Iran, have the necessary infrastructure to supply gas to Armenia. This exploration of alternatives aims to ensure stable and affordable energy resources for the country.
Mesropyan also noted that, as of now, Armenia has not received any official communication about an increase in Russian gas prices. However, the proactive approach indicates Armenia's readiness to secure its energy needs from a broader range of sources should the need arise.
