Strasbourg: Armenia is prepared to facilitate a road connection between Azerbaijan's western regions and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, announced Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his address at the European Parliament. The proposed route would utilize existing infrastructures, specifically the Kornidzor-Gorus-Yeghegnadzor-Yeraskh corridor.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, this proposal is not intended to disrupt or delay the Washington agreements. Prime Minister Pashinyan clarified that Armenia is presenting this proposal in light of its current use of the Azerbaijani railway in a slightly alternative manner. He emphasized that just as Azerbaijan anticipates establishing a connection through Armenia to Nakhchivan, Armenia similarly awaits the establishment of a railway link between its southern and northern regions via Nakhchivan.
Pashinyan further highlighted that Armenia has no viable alternative to this railway route due to the country's challenging mountainous terrain, which impedes the development of other rail transport options. He assured that the expectations of Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding this matter do not contradict each other, indicating a mutual interest in developing these transportation links.
