Baku: Artur Abramyan, an Armenian-origin witness, testified at the ongoing court hearings at the Baku Military Court, APA reports. During the testimony, Abramyan claimed that Armenian army commander in chief Vazgen Sargsyan facilitated the supply of arms from Yerevan to various Azerbaijani territories.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Vusal Aliyev, senior assistant to the Prosecutor General and representative of the public prosecution, highlighted that a criminal case had been initiated on September 19, 1988. This case, overseen by Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor General of the USSR, State Counselor of Justice of the 2nd degree A.I. Nikolayev, involved the investigation of mass riots in Khojaly, Shusha, and Khankendi. The preliminary investigation was conducted by the USSR Prosecutor’s Office.
During his testimony, Abramyan revealed that he served as the driver for Murad Petrosyan, who had interactions with Robert Kocharyan at the Khankendi City Council. He noted that Kocharyan was closely associated with Maksim Babayan, the Chairman of the Khankendi City Council, while Henrik Pogosyan, the Chairman of the ‘Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO)’, led the Armenian national movement.
Abramyan further detailed that Vazgen Sargsyan organized the transportation of arms via helicopter from Armenia to Asgaran and then distributed them to major cities in the region. The weapons were reportedly received by the heads of the Armenian armed detachments and shared among their members.
The trial is part of broader proceedings against Armenian nationals accused of various offenses, including crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism, aggressive war efforts, genocide, and violations of war laws and customs, among other charges linked to Armenia’s military actions.
