Baku: Court hearings continue against several Armenian nationals accused of committing a range of serious crimes, including war crimes and acts of terrorism, in the context of military aggression against Azerbaijan. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the court hearings focus on citizens of the Republic of Armenia, including Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, and others. These individuals face charges of initiating a war of aggression, genocide, and terrorism, among other crimes. The trial is being conducted under the supervision of Judge Zeynal Aghayev, with a judicial panel that includes Jamal Ramazanov and Anar Rzayev. Interpreters and defense attorneys have been provided for each accused individual.
During the hearings, defendant Melikset Pashayan admitted to serving illegally in territories of Azerbaijan that were occupied by Armenia. Pashayan revealed his involvement in military activities, including the First and Second Karabakh Wars, and confirmed that he had been equipped with weapons such as the Kalashnikov assault rifle. He also disclosed details about his military service, including the receipt of medals and salaries.
Another accused, Davit Allahverdiyan, provided testimony about his military involvement and subsequent roles in the self-proclaimed republics within Azerbaijan’s territories. He admitted to receiving weapons and participating in military actions during the 44-day war and acknowledged the agricultural exploitation of occupied lands.
Gurgen Stepanyan, another defendant, confessed to undergoing military service in the Fuzuli district of Azerbaijan, which was under occupation at the time. He also mentioned his involvement in an armed unit and the receipt of a salary for his service.
The court proceedings are addressing the involvement of a total of 15 Armenian nationals, who are accused of orchestrating and executing military aggression and acts of terror against Azerbaijan. These charges are in violation of both domestic and international law and involve high-profile figures from Armenia.
