Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Ties, Lift Visa Requirements for Diplomats


NEW YORK—In a significant move to bolster diplomatic relations, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to exempt visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports during short-term visits.



According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the agreement was signed by Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. The meeting highlighted the progressive development of bilateral relations between the two countries, with discussions covering mutual support within international organizations such as the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).



Minister Bayramov expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing support for Azerbaijan’s positions on the international stage and praised Saudi involvement in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector. The forthcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, hosted by Azerbaijan, was noted as a further opportunity for collaboration in green energy initiatives.



The ministers also recognized the importance of the Intergovernmental Joint Economic Commission as a vital mechanism for maximizing economic, trade, and investment opportunities between the two nations. The meeting also addressed various other bilateral and regional matters of shared interest.
