Baku: Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, engaged in discussions with Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Trkiye, during his visit to Azerbaijan for the 10th trilateral meeting of the Foreign Relations Committees of the Azerbaijani, Turkish, and Georgian parliaments. The dialogue focused on enhancing interparliamentary cooperation and addressing regional challenges.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, both parties underscored the significance of the trilateral meeting, noting that the collaborative relations between Azerbaijan, Trkiye, and Georgia are vital for the peace and stability of the region. They emphasized that the ongoing processes both regionally and globally, coupled with existing challenges, necessitate sustained joint efforts among the foreign relations committees of the three countries. This trilateral cooperation is viewed as pivotal in elevating interparliamentary relations.
During their meeting, Gafarova and Oktay discussed the development of Azerbaijan-Trkiye relations, which align with the slogan "One nation, two states" introduced by National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Gafarova highlighted the strong bond between the two nations, emphasizing that the fraternal relationship between their heads of state is crucial for the comprehensive development of bilateral ties. She noted that the heads of state play a key role in setting the agenda for bilateral cooperation and directing its progression, with efforts at the parliamentary level reflecting their vision. The meeting also highlighted mutual support and joint activities within international parliamentary organizations.
Oktay pointed out that, amid the tensions in the broader region, the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Trkiye acts as a stabilizing factor. He also stressed the importance of economic relations and the role of parliaments in further strengthening these ties. Both sides discussed significant joint projects and explored new opportunities for cooperation, particularly following the launch of the Zangezur Corridor and the outcomes of last August's Washington Summit.
