Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan reinforced its role as a key diversification partner for South-eastern Europe, maintaining consistent flows through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this development aligns with the annual reports from the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). The reports highlight Azerbaijan's strategic importance in enhancing energy security in the region amidst a decline in Eurasia's gas production, which fell by 1.8% to 868 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2025. This decrease was largely attributed to reduced output from Russia, which still accounts for 77% of Eurasia's gas production despite its decline.
Azerbaijan's gas output saw a growth of 2.4%, reaching 39 bcm, largely supported by its major offshore fields. The Shah Deniz field was the most significant contributor, producing 27.9 bcm, followed by the Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli (ACG) block with 3.5 bcm. Additionally, the Absheron gas field increased its production by 7%, achieving 1.6 bcm in the early phase of its operations.
The transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the TAP commenced on December 31, 2020, marking a significant milestone in the region's energy diversification efforts.
