Azerbaijan Identifies Nearly 48,000 Drug-Related Cases Over Five Years

Baku: Azerbaijan has reported the identification of 47,863 cases linked to the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors between 2019 and 2024. This comprehensive crackdown utilized modern telecommunications and information technologies to address the growing issue of drug-related offenses.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, of the total cases identified, 16,458 were related to the sale of narcotic and psychotropic substances, while 29,148 involved illegal acquisition and possession. The illegal cultivation of narcotic plants accounted for 1,877 cases, with an additional 380 cases involving other offenses. The authorities successfully seized 33.5 tons of various narcotics, including significant quantities of heroin, marijuana, opium, hashish, cocaine, and other substances.

During the same period, 39,002 individuals were held criminally liable, comprising 510 foreigners, 37,978 men, and 1,024 women. In accordance with 21,464 court rulings, authorities destroyed 14.4 tons of narcotics and psychotropic substances, along with 156,291 cannabis plants. The efforts are part of the ongoing State Program for Combating Drug Addiction for 2025-2030.
