Azerbaijan Introduces ‘Personal Token of Military Personnel’ Into Legislation

Baku: Azerbaijan is set to introduce the concept of a 'personal token of military personnel' into its legislation, as reported by APA. This proposal was discussed during the latest session of the Milli Majlis and involves an amendment to the law 'On Military Duty and Military Service.'

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the personal token will serve as an identification sign for military personnel who are killed, deceased, or injured (wounded, traumatized, concussed). Each token will feature an individual identification number and blood group information. The state bodies, where the military personnel serve, will be responsible for providing these tokens. The specific procedures for issuing the tokens, as well as their description, characteristics, and registration rules, will be determined by the institution designated by the relevant executive authority.

The introduction of personal tokens addresses the various risks faced by military personnel during their service, including combat operations and emergency situations that may result in injury or death. The tokens are intended to facilitate the rapid identification of personnel and ensure the swift provision of medical assistance, particularly by providing crucial blood group information. This method of individual identification is recognized as an effective mechanism internationally. The proposed amendment aims to incorporate this concept and its usage rules into Azerbaijani legislation.

Following thorough discussions, the draft law was put to a vote and successfully adopted in its third reading.
