Azerbaijan Moves to Ban AI-Generated Fake and Sexual Content in Media

Baku: The distribution of fake and sexual content created using artificial intelligence will face a ban in Azerbaijani media, APA reports. This development is a part of the proposed new Article 14.1.13-1 of the Law 'On Media,' which was submitted for discussion at today's session of the Milli Majlis.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law states that the dissemination of photo, video, or audio materials that do not reflect reality and are created using artificial intelligence technologies or special software-especially pornographic or sexual content that uses a person's image or voice without their consent-will not be permitted. In cases of violation, broadcasting may be temporarily suspended for up to 24 hours by a decision of the Audiovisual Council.

Furthermore, the import and distribution of foreign print media containing such information in Azerbaijan may also be banned by a court decision. Courts hold the authority to order the withdrawal of already distributed foreign print media products from sale if they breach this requirement.

Simultaneously, proposed amendments to the Law 'On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information' require the owner of an internet resource and its domain name, or a user of an information and telecommunications network, to prevent the placement of AI-generated materials that do not reflect reality, including those of a pornographic or sexual nature without consent.

Following discussions, the draft law was put to a vote and successfully adopted in the third reading.
