Azerbaijan Officially Joins New ILO Convention on Occupational Safety

Geneva: Azerbaijan has officially notified the International Labour Organization (ILO) of its accession to the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention No. 187. This announcement was made during the 114th session of the International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland. Anar Aliyev, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population and head of the Azerbaijani delegation, presented the notification to ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the accession was enabled by the approval of the convention by the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan earlier this year. Anar Aliyev highlighted that Azerbaijan has joined 60 ILO conventions to date and is actively evaluating the ratification of additional documents.

In related developments, Minister Anar Aliyev engaged in discussions with Turkish Minister of Labour Vedat Isikhan. The talks emphasized the strong brotherhood and strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Both ministers shared views on enhancing cooperation between their ministries, particularly focusing on labor mobility and workforce exchanges.

Additionally, Anar Aliyev met with Lithuania's Minister of Social Security and Labour, Jurate Zailskiene. Their discussion centered on strengthening bilateral ties in the social sector, with a particular focus on aligning Azerbaijani workforce opportunities with Lithuania's labor market needs.
