Cairo: Azerbaijan has joined an international conference on women's rights taking place in Cairo. On February 1, the conference titled 'Investing in Religious and Media Discourse and Its Impact on the Protection and Promotion of Women's Rights in OIC Member States' began, focusing on a range of issues affecting women in the region.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event is held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and organized by Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, as well as Egypt's National Council for Women. The conference sees participation from Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, ministers, ambassadors, religious leaders, and delegations from various OIC member states. Representing Azerbaijan is a delegation led by Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs.
Throughout the two-day conference, key topics under discussion include women's roles in combating religious and ideological extremism, their involvement in peace and security, and the significant impact of media, culture, and the arts on public perceptions of women. Other focal points include women's economic rights, their contribution to GDP, and strategies to protect them from cyber violence. The conference is expected to conclude with the adoption of the 'Cairo Declaration', outlining commitments and strategies to further women's rights across participating nations.
